Ready for my close up!
In Studio City on the set for a movie!!!!!
So, me and a coworker went down to Studio City this past week because we signed up to be extras in a movie. COMPLETELY random trip. We left at midnight on Wednesday (after a full ten hour day of work, I might add) and got to LA at 4:30 am. Then I made him sleep in the car until 6 (he said he was too keyed up to sleep, but I told him that he would thank me later). If ya'll don't know me by now, I was asleep almost the entire way down there, but woke up every hour to make sure he was awake, then dozed off again. I couldn't have kept my eyes open if my life depended on it. So at 4:30 a.m., I was not up for adventure. No one has to encourage ME to sleep. Anyway, in the bright early morning, he changed in a Starbucks bathroom while I put my makeup on in the car, then I met him in Starbucks to change as well. Check in time was at 9:30 am and we were early. Since we were too nervous to eat breakfast, we were paying dearly by the time the shoot started almost at noon. I can't tell details about the movie until it comes out. BUT! I will say this. The guy that stars in Princess Bride (Carey Elwes) also stars in this movie. Well, at one point, he walks down to the audience during the scene and he walked over to me and touched me on the shoulders. Both shoulders, from behind. Thats right, I am might actually be in this movie--- or I could end up on the cutting room floor.
At the lunch break, the guy that was sent to entertain all the extras (about 200 of us) asked for people to enter a talent competition for prizes. Well, I dont have a talent, but I watched a lot of people who thought they did show off their stuff. Whatever. Who cares if you can wiggle your ears??? So, after they handed over the prized for that, they announced that the singing competition was going to be next. I put my head in my hands and groaned. The guy next to me asked what was the matter and I said, Nick wanted me to sing. He looked at me and said, You sing? When I nodded, he yelled out, We got a singer here! I was stuck. My feet felt like they were in cement blocks as I made my way over to the other singers. It was my intention to sing the national anthem, since my friend had told me to sing it as much as I can in front of audiences to prepare for the football games. Well, at the laaaaaast second, I went in front of everyone and told them my name. They asked what I was going to sing and I said, A song from Phantom of the Opera and everyone gasped. Oh great! I shouldnt have said anything. Now I was extra nervous. Then the entertainer guy threw me off when he said Everybody on the count of three, do your best scary impression1-2-3! And everyone proceeded to scream. I stood there like, Are you kidding me right now? but what I said out loud was, And you might do that again after I sing. Everyone laughed. Now I didnt want to sing anymore. But one last breath and....
Think of me, think of me fondly, when youve said goodbye.
Remember me, once in awhile please promise me youll try.
When you find that once again you long to take your heart back and be free.
If you ever find a moment, spare a though for me....
Before I could even breath again, the place burst into applause. I was stunned. Then the rest of the people sang and the entertainer brought us back up to have a clap off. There was about 12 people and I was in the middle. When he came to me, people were really cheering. At the end of the line, he said, The winner is in the middle somewhere. Lets see. How about this guy? And pointed to the guy to my left. Some people clapped. Then he went on the other side of him, not towards me and said, How about her? and once again some people clapped. At that moment, the Director poked his head in the door and said, We gotta roll! So the entertainer said, The girlshe gets it! And people started yelling something and it took me a second to make out what they were saying. They were saying Phantom! Phantom! I was floored, and when I looked up, I caught the eyes of a guy across the room that looked like he was barely 18 and he mouthed, I voted for you! This same kid met me at the door on the way out to hug me and said, It might as well have been you in the movie. Cute kid. Needless to say, when Carey Elwes asked later on in the afternoon of anyone there could sing, I did not raise my hand and let the girl who won go up to the microphone and sing in front of the cast and crew. Though when she raised her hand, people were yelling, Tawny! I did not want to sing againI was having too much fun letting them all think I could sing :)
Filming was not over until 8:30 pm, then we made the trip back home. Nick drove the entire time and I don't know how he did it. We got back to town at 2 a.m. on friday and were just beat. But I have to tell you that it was one of the funnest days of my life. THE GUY FROM PRINCESS BRIDE-- HE TOUCHED ME!!!!
