Today I went to El Rosal to meet my friend, Alison, for lunch. She warned me that she would be a little late because of a meeting and I reassured her that I would be there early and get us a table.
When I walked up, I was on the phone, and a nice gentleman held the door open for me. I quickly got off the phone when I got inside because I had to look for a table. Some people were just getting out of a booth so I went over to it to claim it while it was being cleaned. Then I spotted an open booth in the corner and took that one. I sat on the side that let me look out to spot my friend when she got there. After about five minutes, I saw a gentleman pull up to the curb in a beat up white truck. He got out with a pot of yellow daisies in his hands, and I thought to myself, "How cute! He is going to come in and give someone flowers!" Since I had nothing else to do but wait, I watched him as he looked on one side of the restaurant, then come around the booths to the side I was sitting, all the while scanning the tables. I assessed him-- he was about in his late 40's, early 50's.... and so I started to look around for a lady to complement that description. He was walking up the aisle toward me and stopped in front of my table. My mind was furiously working on the reason he could be standing there, when I saw him put down the flowers in front of me. And not just any flowers. Daisies. My favorite. I stared at them, thinking he was going to give me instructions on who to pass them off to: like the lady that he was looking for was not there and he had to leave quickly. Before I could look up at him, he spoke: "You are the most beautiful girl on this earth. You're exquisite." I felt the red creep up my neck and the tears come to my eyes. As he turned and walked away, I tried to force the "thank you" out of my mouth loud enough so that he would hear it, but I don't know if I succeeded. I watched as he turned and walked out the door and back in his truck. My jaw was still on the table. I did not know this man, and was pretty sure that I had not seen him before today. In the back of my mind, I think it was the guy who held the door open for me as I was walking in and he was walking out. Truth is, I don't know what prompted him to buy the flowers or to give them to me or to say what he said. But all of it touched my heart in a way hardly explainable.

How wonderfully mysterious! Now how come nothing like that ever happens to me? Nice "You've Got Mail" reference!

Beautiful story! You do know how to turn heads (most of the time they are looking UP at you). I am glad that someone let you know how beautiful you are!
